Stephanie and Greg's wedding - May 15

I'm so glad the weather held for Stephanie and Greg's Friday wedding. The whole week before had been iffy but we lucked out and it was a little muggy but sunny by ceremony time so no one was complaining! It was a small affair with about 60 friends and family to witness their vows on the back patio of the historic building at Cabell's Mill in Virginia. A rushing stream and shady trees made a perfect backdrop. I had great help from Dominic Bracco who got the one photo I wish I could have...the overhead of the kiss at the end of the ceremony and the look on Steph's face as they were pronounced husband and wife. I also had fun photographing the flowers that were just lovely, from her bouquet to the flowers immersed in water with floating candles on top at the reception. I also appreciated the help from Vicki and her folks making the day run smoothly!

Meghan and Bob's wedding - May 9

Meghan and Bob's wedding was an extravaganza in Alexandria. Meghan is one of the most enthusiastic brides I've ever had the pleasure to shoot. Her excitement about the wedding and her attention to the details was amazing. The weather was dicey but ended up beautiful especially by the time we headed to the GW Masonic Memorial for group shots. I had my trusty cute umbrella with me, but I'm happy we didn't need it. The flowers were gorgeous and really stood out against the hot pink bridesmaid dresses. There there were a lot of them--one my bigger bridal parties with eight bridesmaids, four junior bridesmaids and two flower girls. My favorite touch, though was at the reception with the golf ball theme on the tabletops. Bob works for the PGA so it was a nice whimsical touch. The party was rocking and I couldn't have done it all without a wonderful assist from Jonathan Newton. He was a big hit with the Bob's Pittsburgh family after covering the Caps-Pens series. We got game updates during the reception!

Julia and Meisam's wedding - May 2

I was very excited to get to Julia and Meisam's wedding. I had been intrigued with the wedding since Julia's sister Jackie sent them my way last year. I photographed Jackie and Sean's wedding last October--I recognized so many people on Saturday which made me feel right at home. It was my first Persian wedding and I was pretty sure it was going to make really interesting photos. I was right. Julia was beautiful in her modest gown and long white gloves. Her enthusiasm as she was getting ready was contagious. I had been fully briefed beforehand on how the events of the day would transpire but it was another thing to take in the full experience. I have to say it was chaotic, emotional and visually full of great moments. One of my favorite photos is of them during the ceremony in the mirror. After Meisam lifted Julia's veil, they see each other in the mirror. Many thanks to Manuchehr, the family friend who steered me to the best vantage point to get that. One of the other shots I'm partial to (besides the portraits of Julia which had wonderful natural light) is the vertical wide shot of the whole scene where people on the second floor are throwing rose petals and money (!) at the couple. That shot to me really captured the flavor of the day, happy and crowded and filled with friends and family.
