Engagements

An engagement double-dip on Sunday Oct. 19 with Kristina and John in College Park and Alison and Greg in downtown DC. I had fun with both couples, both of whom are getting married next May. These are just a few of my favorites. One note--a sure way to feel old, is to go to your alma mater on a Sunday morning after a football game and stop by the bagel place just off campus! Between that and my recent high school reunion and upcoming birthday...it's just a number, right??

Jackie & Sean's wedding

Another beautiful October afternoon on October 18, another beautiful wedding. OK, a little chilly but I'm not complaining!

Jackie has been such a great advocate for my photography, I was really thrilled to shoot her wedding to Sean. The ceremony was lovely and emotional at a church in Great Falls and then we headed to the reception at the Springfield Golf and Country Club.

A few firsts for me at their wedding (sometimes I think I've seen it all wedding-wise!), when I asked for the rings to photograph them before the ceremony, the best man (and groom's brother) did the usual fumble. But it turned out he really did forget the rings. Luckily he lived a few minutes from the church and a crisis was averted before any damage was done. Also during the reception there was a lovely Czech tradition (correct me if the nationality is wrong guys) of putting an apron on the bride and taking his boutineer and putting it in her hair, both symbols of the woman passing from her family to his. And the final first for me--either at the church or the golf course, I stepped in goose poop and didn't notice it until well into the reception. First time for everything! I hope I'm the only one that noticed that.

Melissa and Matt's wedding

What a gorgeous day for an outdoor wedding! It's been awhile since I shot a wedding in downtown Old Town and although it can be logistically challenging (including where to park!), it makes for some lovely photos. I was joined by the wonderful Jonathan Newton and while he covered Matt, I spent the beginning of the day with Melissa. We did her portraits at the Hotel Monaco in Old Town which has amazing color combinations in the lobby and I just loved the rich red of the walls alongside the courtyard. I traveled with the couple on the King St. Trolley (which also made some fun photos) and the best part of the day was watching all the tourists in Old Town react to the bride and groom. At one point, the crowd near the Torpedo Factory parted and started to applaud. The ceremony was short and sweet and the sun began to set the party moved indoors to the Torpedo Factory. It has been years since I'd shot a party there and it turned out to be a very cool venue. I loved the artists studios lit up along the dining area and the dance floor. It made for some really interesting reception photos.

And yes, I know that the blog photos are not in my usual order of preparation at the bottom and reception at the top...I just loved the shot of Melissa and it was Jonathan's favorite also so I put it first--even though not in sequence!!
